Navigate somewhere without your phone

Spatial navigation was once a survival skill that shaped hippocampal development. GPS has made it unnecessary. London taxi drivers who navigate by memory have measurably larger hippocampi than the general population. When we outsource wayfinding, we let a core cognitive system atrophy.

Walk for one hour with no destination

Walking without purpose was once the default mode of human movement — foraging, exploring, wandering between camps. Every walk now has a destination, a route, an estimated arrival time. Purposeless movement has been almost entirely eliminated from modern life. The body still craves it. Aimlessness is not laziness; it is an ancient cognitive mode.
